Rya-rugs nr 3 and 4 are finished. I LOVE the colors! Reminds me of autumn and ripe apples...
The crocheted basket made in cotton (same kind of material is used in ragrugs). Crocheted on 7 mm hook.
Last but not least - things I made for a fair to come....
.
Ryijyt nro 3 ja 4 ovat valmiita. Värit on IHANAT! Muistuttavat syksystä ja kypsistä omenoista.
.
Sain virkatun korin valmiiksi. Se on tehty puuvillaisesta matonkuteesta. Virkattu 7 mm:n koukulla.
.
Viimeisenä muttei vähäisempänä - jotain tulevan kesän markkinoille....

Last week I finished two rya rugs - they are quite small, aprox. 30 x 30 cm. These goes to the shop at the museum I´m practising at. I already started on a new one. It´s going to be red and green - I´ll put up the pics on it next week....

I also did set up my weave for the tablets I´m going to use to make tabletwoven ribbons on in linen. This project is for the medieval fair next summer. Pictures on that later on when I get started....
.
.
Loin myös loimen lautanauhaa varten. Valmistan näitä lautanauhoja pellavasta. Projekti on tulevan kesän keskiaikamarkkinoille. Valokuvia siitä myöhemmin kunhan pääsen alkuun...

Last week I learned how the spinning-wheel works. Oh boy, one might think it´s easy to spin when one watches a Youtube video on spinning yarn but....no, my first attempt was horrible. My yarn was so thick and bulky you could throw it straight in the wastebin!!! You can see the two balls of yarn below. The yarn on the left is the first one I made and the one on the right is my second one. I somehow managed to get the yarn on the second one a little bit thinner. Maybe with more practice I´ll someday spin something I can use.... Those I´ll save as curiosa!!!

All these pictures are from our workshop at the museum. The children coming to the rya rug exhibition are offered to try out spinning on the spinning wheel and the drop spindle, carding wool and either sew some rya or make rya knots on the loom.

Above are a pic of my loom and working space. I´m making an hourglass figure on my small rya rug. It doesn´t look like anything yet but I´m slowly making progress.

Next week we´ll have a bunch of kids here so I hope we are able to inspire them and hopefully some of them will feel the spark which ignites the need to make handicrafts in the future!!!!!

2/2010 Back to school

Anna knitting.

My latest finished project. Towels in linen....satin weav....red, white and beige.

Kitchen towels - the red ones are my own and the beige and white goes to our shop at school "Tuuma & Tikki".

I started a new project at home - a rya rug (knotted pile rug).

I have so much yarn in my stash it will be a pleasure to get rid of it. Most of the yarns are wool and mohair. Some of them dyed last year and the year before.

I started sketching from an idea I had. Let´s see if I can make something useful.... maybe a rya for the wall or a cushion.
